You know what’s funny? People always ask me how I maintain my energy and glow after all these years in the spotlight. Truth is, my wellness journey wasn’t always pretty – and it definitely didn’t start with green smoothies and yoga poses!
When I first started hosting variety shows back in the day, I was running on pure adrenaline and way too much coffee. My idea of wellness was getting five hours of sleep instead of three. Boy, was I wrong about everything.
The Wake-Up Call That Changed Everything

I’ll never forget the day I literally collapsed during a live taping. Not my finest moment, let me tell you! The medics said it was exhaustion, but I knew it was more than that. My body was screaming for help, and I’d been ignoring all the signs.
That’s when I realized that being successful on television meant absolutely nothing if I couldn’t take care of myself. The glamorous life everyone saw wasn’t so glamorous behind the scenes. I was burnt out, stressed, and honestly pretty miserable despite all the external success.
Building My Wellness Foundation
Starting over wasn’t easy. I had to completely rewire my relationship with health and self-care. The first thing I learned? Wellness isn’t just about looking good – it’s about feeling good from the inside out.
I began with simple changes that didn’t overwhelm my already crazy schedule. Instead of skipping meals, I started packing healthy snacks. Rather than chugging energy drinks, I switched to herbal teas. Small steps, but they made a huge difference in how I felt daily.
My Non-Negotiable Wellness Practices
- Morning meditation, even if it’s just 5 minutes
- Staying hydrated (I carry a water bottle everywhere now)
- Regular exercise that I actually enjoy
- Getting quality sleep – this was the hardest one for me
- Surrounding myself with positive people who support my health goals
The Mind-Body Connection I Wish I’d Known Earlier
Here’s something they don’t teach you in broadcasting school: your mental health directly impacts your physical health. I spent years thinking I could push through stress without consequences. Spoiler alert – you can’t!
Learning to manage stress became my biggest wellness breakthrough. I started practicing mindfulness techniques and realized how much tension I was carrying in my shoulders and jaw. Sometimes the simplest awareness can be the most powerful tool in your wellness toolkit.
I also discovered that saying “no” to certain opportunities wasn’t career suicide – it was self-preservation. This mindset shift was probably the most important wellness decision I ever made.
Wellness Mistakes I Made (So You Don’t Have To)
Let me be real with you – I’ve made some pretty epic wellness fails over the years. I once tried this crazy detox diet that left me so hangry I snapped at my makeup artist. Not my proudest moment!
I also fell into the trap of thinking expensive supplements would magically fix everything. Turns out, basic nutrition and consistent habits beat fancy pills every single time. Who knew?
The biggest mistake though was trying to do everything at once. I wanted instant results and ended up burning out again. Sustainable wellness is about gradual changes, not dramatic overhauls.
What Wellness Means to Me Today
These days, my approach to wellness is much more balanced and realistic. I don’t stress about being perfect – that’s just another form of self-torture. Instead, I focus on consistency and listening to what my body actually needs.
Some days that means pushing myself during a workout. Other days it means taking a bubble bath and watching trashy TV shows. Both are valid forms of self-care, and I’ve learned to embrace them equally.
I’ve also become passionate about sharing these lessons with others, especially women who feel like they’re constantly juggling everything. We deserve to feel good in our own skin, and wellness should enhance our lives, not complicate them.
Your Wellness Journey Starts Today
The beautiful thing about wellness is that it’s completely personal. What works for me might not work for you, and that’s perfectly okay. The key is to start somewhere and be patient with yourself as you figure out what makes you feel your best.
Remember, you don’t need to overhaul your entire life overnight. Small, consistent changes are way more powerful than dramatic gestures that you can’t maintain. Trust me on this one – I’ve learned it the hard way!
